Summer Internship Series: What Our Intern, Hannah, Expects to Learn at CIIC
Before beginning my internship with CIIC last month, I was a student at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. I graduated from Quinnipiac University this May with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and a minor in Marketing. When I went into college freshman year, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, and after taking various business classes that I didn’t really enjoy, I decided to switch to communications. Again, I wasn’t sure what area of communications I wanted to go into, but I quickly realized that I wanted to go into public relations after really enjoying the few classes I had taken. Almost instantly, I started enjoying school more and seeing an improvement in my grades.
While I learned so much in my four years at Quinnipiac, I know that interning here at CIIC will only help me to learn more as well as get the full agency experience. After all, no teacher is as good as personal experiences!
In the past month here at CIIC, I have done and learned more than I thought in such a short time. I have done media sweeps, social media content calendars, press clippings, and media lists. We didn’t learn much of that at all in school. I know that all of these different skills will help me jump into my future of public relations.
While I have learned a lot so far here at CIIC, I can only hope that I get to experience so much more in the coming months as a Graduate Intern. I hope to learn to write press releases, assist with activity reports and year-to-dates, work at events, assist with request for proposals, and pitch campaigns. I have done some of these in school and look forward to putting my skills to use in the real world. As for some of the things I have never done, I look forward to learning so that I can use these skills in the future as well as help my team members. I can’t wait to see what the next few months have in store.
