Take It From An Intern

As my final day as a Summer intern comes to an end here at CIIC, I can’t help but to reflect on the opportunity I had to learn from such incredibly talented women.

Prior to starting my position this summer,  I was nervous about going into the internship without any office or corporate experience. Working towards my degree in Marketing, I knew the summer before graduation was a crucial time to land an internship and gain exposure into my industry. I found CIIC’s information through my school’s database and before I knew it, landed an interview with Carolyn Izzo-Feldman, and everything fell into place. Aside from working my part-time job at a local retail store, I took the position as one of CIIC’s interns and would soon begin my very memorable summer.

My nerves were quickly calmed the first May morning after meeting the team and the other interns. Everyone was more than welcoming, urging us to ask questions and giving us the inside scoop on the best places to grab a slice of authentic NY style pizza in Nyack. Once the training process began, I realized this wasn’t the average internship.

My days didn’t revolve around office coffee runs or making hundreds of copies. I was taken more seriously. My skills were put to the test between writing press releases, constructing media lists, and creating social media content calendars for clients. I was trained on Cision, Constant Contact, PR Newswire, and got the chance to expand my knowledge and appreciation for the PR and marketing industry.  It was great working with clients in Hospitality & Tourism, Lifestyle, and Food & Beverage industries because of the diverse scope of work it allowed me to take on.  I learned time management skills are a must to succeed in the world of PR, especially when being responsible for multiple projects under an umbrella of different client accounts. Being an intern at CIIC means your time management skills will be mastered, and you’ll be rewarded with your hard work going live on several social media and website channels.

Going into my senior year, I feel confident and better prepared for post-grad life. CIIC’s summer internship program introduced me to some incredible people, and I learned a tremendous amount in my two and a half months here. I am amazed at how fast the summer flew by, but am grateful for the time I did get to spend with the team. I am as excited as ever to finish up my last year in college, so that I can start the next big chapter in my life, bringing my knowledge and experience gained from CIIC with me.
